Description:
From Library Journal
Dwyer, head of bibliographic services at California State University at Chico's Meriam Library, has produced a bibliography of new books, two-thirds of which were published in the 1990s, and classic titles about nature and the
environment for adults and young adults. He lists 2600 entries, including about 1000 fiction titles, that were in print as of March 1995. The nonfiction titles are arranged into seven chapters by such topics as specific environments (deserts,
rainforests), activities and issues (water supply, energy), and, in the largest section, environmental action (deep ecology, green business). The fiction titles are arranged by such topics as animals, ecofeminism, and the New West. An interesting
inclusion is science fiction. Entries offer standard bibliographic information (publisher, pagination, year of publication), a two- to three-sentence annotation discussing the scope of the work, and reading level for young adult titles. Works that are
considered particularly strong are marked HR for "Highly Recommended." Outstanding author, title, and subject indexes complete this volume. This monumental reference work is highly useful as a selection tool for its thoroughness of coverage and the
availability of titles. More inclusive than Pamela Jansma's Reading About the Environment (LJ 9/15/93), it is strongly recommended for all libraries. [Dwyer is an LJ reviewer.?Ed.]?Eva Lautemann, DeKalb Coll. Lib., Clarkston, Ga.
