Moore's book arises from a course in genealogical resources for librarians. Although it covers many topics of interest to genealogists, none is given in-depth treatment. Furthermore, a number of annoying errors appear. The lists of "helpful classification schedules" are far from accurate (e.g., genealogies of American families class at CS71 in LC, not CS71^-80, for CS72^-79 do not exist, and CS80 is for Canadian genealogy; and U.S. patriotic societies class in 369.1, not 360, in DDC). A library with more than a few patrons doing genealogical research would be better off investing in a more detailed work, such as The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy (rev. ed., 1996).
