Question/Topic: Library of Congress book search, how to retrieve information from the browser?

  • Use your Browser and Library of Congress search page.
  • Display details of the item.
  • Find LCCN number on the item display page.
  • Import item data into our Library system using LCCN number.

  • On the Web menu click Add Records From the Internet.
  • Select lccnItem in the Search By box.
  • Select Library of Congress - LCCN
 


  • Open browser and go the Library of Congress search page.
  • Enter search text (book title and/or author).
 


  • You can also use Browse or Advance Search.
 


  • Review search results.
  • Choose the item you are searching for from the list by clicking on it.
 


  • On the item detail display find LCCN number.
  • Highlight the number and copy it.
 


  • Switch to Add Records from Internet window (Library software).
  • Click on Search Items tab.
  • Paste LCCN number into Search For the Following lccnItems(s) box (one number per line).
  • Click Search Selected Sites to display results.
 


  • Review results.
  • Click Import to add selected results into Library or Working Items database.
 


  • Instead of looking for LCCN number maybe it's easier to use link to XML display page.
  • You can also use a link to MODS Record display page.
  • Copy shortcut link that represents MODS Record.
  • Switch to our program.
 

  • Paste shortcut link (page address) into Web Page Address ... box.
  • Click Direct Search.
  • Review result in the Found Items table.
  • Click Import to add selected results into Library or Working Items database.
