It begins with a category listing by topics, which Day found necessary to add to the standard list. Each Roget category is included in the body of the work, with helpful cross references to other categories. Entries under the categories consist of the author's paraphrase of the cited verses, with side headings that sort the listings into varying areas of interest within the category. The work concludes with an index to the Bible references as well as a subject index.
