Grade 7-9 This volume contains interesting historical information about the reasons for the development of our postal service and its evolution to today's level of automation. Clearly and objectively, McAfee describes all of the services which our postal service provides. The format gives the book a deceptively ``easy to read'' appearance because it has large margins, well-spaced letters and words, and many black-and-white illustrations. However, the text is on a junior high level. The introduction by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., is on a more scholarly level, but its inclusion is important, adding insight into the reasons for the development of a civil service and discussing the government's increased involvement in our lives. There are many adult and children's books about the postal service, but there is nothing comparable on this level.
