Book Description
From Library Journal By "Christian Quotations" Water means quotations that may be inspirational, informational, or otherwise useful to Christians, regardless of their source or subject. This is evidenced by the inclusion of quotations from such
non-Christian sources as Epicurus and Robert Ingersoll and regarding matters not explicitly Christian (for example, Eddie Cantor's "A sleeping pill will never take the place of a clear conscience"). Among the specifically Christian sources quoted there
are standards from St. Augustine and C.S. Lewis as well as those not likely to be found elsewhere (e.g., Norman Geisler and Henry Morris). This and the number of quotations (20,000+) are the strengths of the work. Its weaknesses are its categories, cross
references, and citations. Along with the usual categories of faith, hope, and love, are "Armenianism and Calvinism," "Official Teachings of the Mormons," "Ninety-Five Theses," and "Famous Bible Verses in the King James Version." All of these seem
unlikely topics for users seeking quotations. Though there are numerous cross references in the volume, there are none from subheadings like "Baptism" or "Church" under the main heading "Roman Catholic Doctrine" to or from the main headings for those
subjects. And, like the Doubleday Christian Quotation Collection (LJ 9/1/98), most of the quotations are cited only by the name of the person quoted. Not recommended. Craig W. Beard, Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham Lib. Copyright 2001 Reed Business

Product Description: The value and appeal of quotations is hard to deny. Jesus himself was fond of using quotations. Anyone wanting a comprehensive, well-organized, thoughtful collection of Christian quotations-covering
multiple topics and many occasions-will find this encyclopedia invaluable. Preachers, speakers, writers, church and school librarians, and students will especially value this ideal resource.
This comprehensive and up-to-date volume features more
than 20,000 quotes from over 2,500 sources. In addition to short quotes, there are many paragraph-long entries as well as "feature pages" that explicate basic Christian teachings. These extended quotations, scattered throughout the book, include
important Christian documents, such as the Westminster Catechism and Luther's 95 Theses. An extensive list of entries, full cross-references, and an index of sources make this resource especially user-friendly.
