How to create bar code entries for existing records?

Manual creation of the bar code entries for a large number of records could be time consuming. To speed up this process you can use Replace functions.

Your barcodes could include numbers and/or characters. Bar code entries have to be unique. We suggest to use simple numerical values. If you library has about 2000 books, you can use values from 0001 to 2000. If you library has about 10,000 books, you can use values from 00001 to 10000.

  • On the File menu, click Load Database. Select SmallLibrary database and click Load.
  • On the Search menu, click Replace. Select BARCODE in the Field To Be Replaced box. Select Auto-Increment in the Replace Mode section. Enter 1 in the Start From box. Select First Record in the Start Replacing From section. Click Replace.

Optional:

If you would like to have characters in the front of your bar code you can run Replace function again with new options selected. Select BARCODE in the Field To Be Replaced box. Select Insert In Front in the Replace Mode section. Enter character that you would like to have in front of each bar code in the Insert This Text box (Insert If Found box leave empty). Select First Record in the Start Replacing From section. Click Replace.
