Questions and answers from non-profit libraries:

Question: I'm with a small U.S. nonprofit and we're installing a small library at a community center for AIDS orphans in Africa. It looks like you Handy Library Manager is your latest product, but Small Library Organizer Pro looks like it fits the bill. Do you have
a.) a recommendation for this small library?
b.) non-profit pricing?

Answer: Handy Library is a perfect choice; please review the feedback. We offer a discount for non-profit institutions. In addition, there is a non-profit one-location license that lets you install the software on the network.

Question: We're a small non-profit with a small library. We know we want to purchase Handy Library but just not sure which package. It's likely 1 or 2 people will be mostly responsible but we'd like to be able to access the program on multiple computers if necessary.

Answer: To access the program on multiple computers, you need a network license. We offer a discount for non-profit institutions.

Question: What does it mean to have one location license? We are a nonprofit and looking at applying for a grant. we can't afford to keep adding to our cost. we need to have a one time payment.

Answer: One location license lets you install the program on your server computer and access the software from many client computers connected with the server. This license costs $545, and it is a one-time payment.

Question: As a non-profit which is chronically short of cash, we would like to know if there is an upgrade cost to the latest version or whether we would have to pay the full price if we wanted to change.

Answer: All minor upgrades are free. Every 3-4 years, we release a major upgrade and there is only an upgrade cost.

Question: Not sure which version I need. For non-profit library. One computer only. Need several layers of security so more complex functions are controlled.

Answer: You need a basic license. Then, the librarian can access the main library app. Volunteers can access apps that are included in the package: search, data entry, check-in, check-out.

Question: I work for The Reading Place, a Canadian non-profit dedicated to giving children access to free, grade-appropriate reading materials and scholarships. As part of our setup process, we have been looking at a variety of library management systems, one of which is Handy Library Manager. However, I'm having a little trouble telling what the differences are between the various licensing options. Of particular interest are the non-profit, network, and cloud licensing options. What exactly are the differences between these licenses? We're a relatively small library with a single site, though remote access to the library database would be excellent. Are there any recommendations you can give us for an appropriate license?

Answer: The remote, over-the-web access is supported only by the cloud license. The library cloud version is the most expensive. It needs a windows web server computer and IT personnel to configure the settings.

The network license supports the use of the system on the library computers (server/clients). In this case, we provide remote access to the library web search module.
