How to Find Book Data by Title or Author When ISBN Search Fails

When an ISBN search returns no results — because the edition differs, the book predates ISBN, or the number contains errors — this page shows how to look up the correct ISBN, LCCN, ASIN, or OCLC number manually using Amazon, the Library of Congress catalog, or WorldCat, then use that number in the Auto-Catalog feature. Also covers copying data directly from any web search result.

If our auto cataloguing feature (search by ISBN) does not return results it does not mean that the book is not listed in the source catalogue:

• sometimes there is another edition of the book with different ISBN number.
• sometimes the book is very old and does not have ISBN number.
• sometimes invalid ISBN numbers are entered into the search box (ISBN has to be 10 digit or 13 digit number, only digits, no other characters).
