note: I want to know if we can scan books based on ISBN numbers in order to 1) enter them into our library and 2) check in/out or if we have to 1) manually type all the book info in to your program and 2) print our own bar codes on every item.
We have the software. I am asking if we can scan the isbn to check books in/out and to add to our library or if we have to print labels with new codes on them and use those codes rather than the isbn numbers.

You can enter book information from the web using ISBN.
The barcode value for every item has to be unique. We do not recommend using ISBNs in the book's barcode field and then use this value in the check-in and check-out transactions. In the case of multiple copies of the same book, ISBNs will be the same.

Electronically check in/out by using ISBN barcodes

Question: I need to know how to make the current 2216 books in my system able to be electronically checked in/out by using ISBN barcodes. Unfortunately, I cannot produce 2216 barcodes and apply to 2216 randomly shelved books.
We have used card file system for many years. We are trying to convert to scannable checkout and are hitting the wall inside the program that really disallows ISBN. If you can , please intercede with me in this. I will make ISBN the barcode and keep in ISBN space in directory or eliminate ISBN space all together.
We don´t care that ISBN may be on more than one copy if same book. We just need to scan that barcode to check out.

Answer: You can store the book ISBN number in the ISBN data field, and then use the book's barcode label to process check-in and check-out transactions.
In the case of multiple copies of the same book, you will have to create unique barcode numbers and print regular library barcode labels.
