Can we use barcodes that are already on books?

We are small school and currently we have about 7,000 books that were given to us by private school that closed. We a trying to find library software that is inexpensive that will allow our kids to check out books, allows us to know who has checked them out, and if they have been returned. Also to add new books to our current library. It looks like the Handy library manager would be a great option for us. I have two questions:
1. The books that were donated to us from another school library already have barcodes. We would be able to use those barcodes or would they have to be changed? 2. And can the Handy Library Manager software be run from a tablet?

You can enter barcodes that are already on your items. Use Verify Barcode Number feature to check if the number is unique.

I have some questions regarding the Handy Library Manager program you have available for sale for $345.00. I work for a Kindergarten Academy and we are looking to purchase this program for our small school library. Can we use the Barcodes already on the books? We also will be entering students in the system as they check out and is there a way to give them a Barcode number per student?

Yes you can already use barcodes that are on your books. When you import or enter manually your library materials enter this number into the BARCODE data field. If barcode number is not entered (field left empty) our system assigns the number automatically. You can always change this number.

Student barcode numbers. Our program manages them the same way as item barcodes. You can enter numbers into the BARCODE data field (BORROWERS table). If barcodes are not entered our program creates unique barcode numbers.

I am the librarian at Parks Kindergarten Academy in Indianapolis, IN. We are using your software system to catalog, check-in and check-out books from our library. For the first time I am ordering books from a publisher and need to give them a starting barcode number to assign to our purchases. Can I pretty much make that barcode any number I want? I assume as long as I input the barcodes into your system the scanner will read and recognize the barcode for each book-correct?

Barcodes in any library software should have unique values. For new books, select the barcode range that your library does not use.
