Help, how to topics > Library Users > Borrowers: Common Questions

Question: 1. I want to search for my borrowers by their first name, not their last name. How can I fix this?

Answer: We keep our library management system as simple as possible. To streamline data entry, the first name and last name fields are combined into a single entry. If you would like to search by a borrower's first name, there are two ways to set up your data entry and search process:

1. Use a specific naming format: Enter borrower names in the format of "Last_Name, First_Name" (e.g., "Smith, John"). When you perform a search, type a space followed by the first name (e.g., " John"). The system will then list all borrowers with that first name.
2. Use an additional data field: You can enter the first name into an extra data field, such as the CUSTOM1 field. You can also rename this field to FIRSTNAME in the Options window.

Note: You can use the "Run SQL" feature to automatically copy existing first names over to the CUSTOM1 field. Please contact our support team, and we will be happy to provide step-by-step instructions.
