Restoring Lost Items to the Library Main Table.

This topic explains how to transfer items from LIBRARY_LOST back to LIBRARY.

Before proceeding, check the version number of your Handy Library Manager. If your version is below 4.40, please use the upgrade feature to update the software to the latest version. We have implemented several improvements in the new version.


In the Administrator panel, click on "Edit/View Table" and then select "Library-Lost Items."


Moving an Item

  • In the LIBRARY_LOST window, locate the item you wish to move back to the LIBRARY. Click on the item (1) to select it.
  • Activate the "Move Items" tab. Select "Add Another Copy" (2) and then click "Move Item" (3). Confirm your action by clicking "Yes" (4). The selected item will now be moved to the LIBRARY.
  • You can close this window, then open the LIBRARY and search by Title or Barcode number to verify that the item has been added to the Library table.

  • It is helpful to mark the moved item for future reference. You can utilize custom data fields; for example, you can enter the date when the item was moved or make a note regarding who moved it (CUSTOM_1).
  • You can close this window, then open the LIBRARY and search by date or the name.

  • In the Library table, use the search feature to display items that have been transferred.

Item Exists / Do Not Add Option

You have the option to select "If Item Exists/Do Not Add". If you do this, the program will check whether an item with the same title already exists in the main library table. If a duplicate is found, the program will not move the item and will display a warning message. In this case, you should close the Library Lost Items table and check in the Library. Someone may have already created a new entry, or you might have multiple copies. It is essential to verify the items manually and then decide whether to proceed with the move.

If items with the same title do not exist in the Library table, the program will move the item to the Library table.


Barcode Number Exists in the Library Table

You cannot move an item if another item in the Library table is already using its barcode number.

You will receive a warning message stating that the item cannot be moved. The program will add two exclamation marks (!!) to the barcode number. You will need to investigate why there are items with the same barcode number in both the Library and the Library Lost tables.





Question: I found one book out of 20ish books this week on the Lost Database but when I moved it to the Main Catalog it disappeared completely.

Answer: There was an error in the Handy Library Manager. The program detected a book in the library with the same title and author, which led it to assume that the item had already been moved or entered. As a result, the item was removed from LIBRARY_LOST. Please check the version number of the Handy Library Manager and upgrade to the latest version.
